Advanced Therapeutic Massage practitioner in Bristol
The Maple Well Being room, based in Bristol allows our massage therapist to offer advanced techniques in Therapeutic Massage to promote you and your body's complete well being.
Therapeutic Massage is also known by some as:
- Swedish Massage
- Holistic Massage
What are the benefits of therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic Massage is a form of tissue manipulation which has developed over thousands of years. Massage has been used for restoring and promoting good health and originates from ancient China.
Using the hands to manipulate the soft tissues of the body provides stimulation, rehabilitation or relaxation. It also promotes suppleness, improves circulation and reduces stress.
What will happen during a therapeutic massage session?
I will carry out an initial consultation with you and will ask you some questions about your general health, life style, etc. in order to check that therapeutic massage will be beneficial to you and to ascertain your requirements.
I will then leave you to get undressed and will ask you to remove all of your clothing with the exception of your pants. You will then lay on the massage couch and cover yourself with the towels provided. It is worth mentioning that during the massage all parts of the body which are not being massaged remain covered with the towels and that 'private parts' of the body are not exposed or massaged.
Short term benefits of massage
The immediate benefit on the body after massage therapy:
- Relaxes the body, reducing tension and stress
- Relaxes the mind, reducing anxiety and its effects
- Soothes and comforts
- Gives a 'lift' to emotions and increases positive feelings
- Increases energy levels by invigorating all body systems and reducing fatigue
Long term benefits of receiving massage treatment
If you have a series of regular treatments of massage:
- Enables sustained relaxation of body and mind
- Improves body image, awareness and general self-esteem
- Increases energy levels
- Breaks down fatty tissue enabling the body to become 'toned'.
How you may feel
If you have any concerns about removing your clothing mention this to me during the initial consultation.
After the Therapeutic Massage
I will give you specific after care advice. It is important that you try to follow this advice as it will help you to obtain maximum benefit from your massage session. You will then have the opportunity to book another session if you so wish. Therapeutic massage is at it's most beneficial when carried out on a regular basis.
Each person will react differently, but the experience should help with a feeling of relaxation and well-being.
During the massage you may find it beneficial to breathe deeply, focusing on the moment, visualising a release of tension and 'letting go'. All of this will maximise the benefits you will receive.
About Ali Higham - Therapeutic Massage Therapist
I am qualified in therapeutic massage and believe that regular massage along with a wholesome diet and gentle exercise promotes good health and a sense of well- being. I have regular weekly massage sessions myself and would recommend the treatment to anyone looking to improve their health/life balance.
I am also a qualified Life Coach in Bristol and believe that a balanced life style is important for everyone. Everything we do in our daily lives affects our bodies. For example, an uncomfortable working environment can cause stress, tiredness and related conditions, such as anxiety and depression. At home, lack of exercise and poor diet plus too much sedentary activity (watching TV, reading, using computers) may cause similar problems.
Regular massage can help to alleviate the adverse effects caused by the negative factors of everyday living i.e. stress. When the body is stressed it must work harder than usual in order to remain balanced. Hence, stressed people tend to over-use conventional relaxation methods such as drinking and smoking in order to be calm. However, too much alcohol or nicotine can have an adverse effect on the body in the long run whereas a holistic treatment such as massage on a therapeutic basis can help to induce deep relaxation, helping to remove the pent-up tension of the stress response, without damaging the body.
